Vanquish Demo Impressions

Vanquish is a game developed by Shinji Mikami and Platinum games, published by SEGA.
It's a fast paced third person shooter set in a futuristic setting with a lot of technology and humanoid-robots, and it's fucking crazy. =D

I had never played it before, so seeing how fast game played, I wanted to get used to controls and such, so I'm delighted that there is a tutorial describing the mechanics of the game, it's seperated from the real "demo" so you don't have to wait through stuff you already know if you decide to play it multiple times.

Ok, so the tutorial starts, I'm standing in this clean white desgined room, which looks really cool, I love that kind of design. Next moment shit is transforming out of the floor with weapons, I'm sliding around on my knees in rocket speed, got this awesome unreal tournament esc. circlesaw gun, rocket launcers, and I'm shooting and throwing grenades all over the room while sling on my knees in slow motion all over the room, it's fucking awesome! =D

Time to begin the game, the game starts right up, no leading cutscene. I start on the bottom of these stairs and.. WOAAH, I'm sliding up the stairs and punching a guy flipping me up in the air, activating slow motion and shooting the robot thing to pieces, next I know a dude comes in from the flank, and shoots me dead right there, Wtf!? I'm a fucking super soldier!

Thing is that all those actions depletes this one bar I have in my HUD in the down-right place of the screen. All your special suit actions depletes the bar, slo-mo, knee slide, and especially melee. It also acts as sort of a health bar, because when you are depleted, you'll die very fast if someone shoots you.
You work to manage these different powers on this bar, and it works really good, it gives the game a strategic element which many third person shooters doesn't have.

So the next area that I come to is in a huge circular colosseum like structure with a bunch of cover points, and a higher floor with some rocket-turrets; a great place to just slide around and play with your enemies a little. Speaking of enemies, they're really agressive and on the move, at least in thight spaces, they jump towards you, try to punch you in the face, and you really have to be on your toes, they also litterally jump over you and are trying to melee you from behind. Which is really cool, it keeps you on your toes, and reinforces how fast the game is, and how reaction based it is.

Back to the battle, as I'm sliding around (I really like sliding around =3) and shooting the drivers of these bipedal turrets, manning one of them, and exploding some more robots, the controls aren't bad on the vehicle either, it's fairly fast for a walking turret, but hard to manevour around thight cover and such. I use this to blow up some robots, and then a large robot, probably a mini-boss or something, but my "walker" took care of him quickly, it went out of ammo fast though, probably because they want you to keep on the move, and not just sit there and blow up everything in your path.

*cue awesome cutscene* like bayonetta, the game has awesome and over-the-top cutscenes, this big crab-like boss robot thing comes out of the ground, and it's awesomely crazy!
I fight it till I deplete its life-bar, there's a pretty obvious way to beat it actually, pretty straightforward weak spots and such. Now as I thought I'd beat it "that wasn't too hard" it starts shooting like a millions rockets all over the place, and I'm like HOLY SHIT as I'm dodging around with the most useful dodge I've ever seen in a shooter, rockets everywhere!
Right after that it transforms like a fucking transformer, and becomes this huge bipedal humanoid robot, I fought him and went trough this crazy-awesome quick time event (I actually failed it a few times because it wouldn't register my analog movement)
I finish him by destroying his inner core afterwards, and he blows up in a million pieces raining from the sky.
A nice finish, and a nice demo altogether, I loved it a lot, thus I played it about seven more times =DD

A quick summary:
+Great controls, and quick neat character movement
+Amazing design and Graphics, aswell as a bundance of particle effects and explosions
+Powers varies the gameplay, and sets it apart from other 3rd person shooters
+Crazy action and cutscenes

-voice-acting is kinda meh, very generic
-uninteresting characters so far, soldier generics
-the boner you get may be inappropriate with family and friends around

cuz then the Vanquish demo comes out for PSN and XBL, I can't wait to try it!! >=D
I won't be trying it on xbox until they let the silvers use it, cuz I'm NOT paying for gold cuz of a demo, I recently did that with the Crackdown 2 demo, and the demo sucked, and I wasted a 1month gold card.
Microsoft is greedy with no reason to be so, they basically have infinite money and recources, and they can't even allow users to play online without paying?
In my opinion they can start getting greedy if they actually make a console that works *cough*playstadion*cough* hell, even my playstadion 1 has held up until now, and I got that when it released, are people just incompetent to make solid working consoles these days?

there's a reason I'm usually on my Playstadion 3, not only because the xbox wakes up the entire household, but because of the interface, the games, the solid hardware and software, and of course free internet.

sry, thats just my rant on shitty consoles life cycles and pointless fees, aswell as the milking nature of Microsoft, with their avatar clothing*urgh*, gold payment, and shitty hardware.

well, the positive sides of having an xbox? exclusives, which microsoft only does to be assholes, if I didn't own an xbox I couldn't play games like the Splinter cell series, LIMBO, mass effect, Alan wake, gears of war 1/2, shadow complex, bayonetta (the high quality one) bioshock, and portal; no other games interests me exclusively for xbox, other than the early DLC for fallout, but thats different.

Beyond good and evil 2 is still in development!!!! as confirmed by an official interview from the fucking creator, so no speculation there =D

well, maybe dampen the excitement a little bit...
He stated in said interview, that as he doesn't want the game to lose it's soul and make it a commercial product, so the game is being worked on by a relatively small team; it will take a hell of a lot more time, but I'm confident that the game will indeed be a game with personality and soul by the end of development ;)

I'm just so happy that they are continuing development, and how they are approaching it, it shows that they really care about their fanchise.

Crackdown 2 demo Impressions

Some of my main focuses in gaming, and how games work, is controls and traversing the large world that is given to you. Let's just say that where the Crackdown 2 demo fails, is in those parts. Now I know this is at the very start of the game, you have almost no agility levels to traverse the world with, and you spend over half the demo time doing your best to even get to that point where platforming doesn't get a hassle. When you finally get to that point, the demo ends.

Same as the other abilities; shooting downright sucks until you fumble around with it a whole lot, and level it up; this is also seen recently in Alpha Protocol, Fallout 3, and many westrern RPG's.
The melee attack has always been overpowered in crackdown, I don't remember him auto-targeting enemies. I get in the middle of a bunch of "Freaks" (apperently every game needs zombies now, thats lazy) I get in the middle of them, and starts to hit (B) everything around me dies, and seeing that there is at least twenty freaks packed in this little area, thats a little overpowered.

but I don't mind empowerment, not at all, it's some of the most satisfying things in gaming, at least thats what developers thinks. It is satifying, yes, especially in a game like Shadow complex, when you start off as a fragile fly, and by the end is a fucking unstoppable killing machine, and I believe that all this demo really shows for is game mechanics, and controls, not the badass you are at the end, I would like a little abilitease at the end of the demo or something, that will show me where my character ends up, so I don't walk away from the demo feeling unsatisfied.

Now about those controls, they seem very sloppy and unresponsive, I flick the stick, and one seconds later the character moves, I press the jump button, and one seconds later the character jumps; in the original crackdown, I felt that the controls was fairly responsive, or maybe I don't remember, and my standards had raised.

I know every game cannot be like Bayonetta, but what that team showed was that the time they spent developing the controls, and how clever and smart they were when mapping the button layout, it made the game a hundred times better. Without perfect controls, I believe Bayonetta would've been a mediocre game, and come off as a god of war/ devil may cry ripoff.

The camera in the demo of crackdown 2 is also bad, and I think they didn't change much from the original on that aspect; I can't pinpoint exactly why this particular thing sucks here, but it just doesnt work. I think it may be because the camera is semi-static, and doesn't follow where the character is facing at all.

In the end I think that Crackdown is not good for it's controls, or it's structure, or even story, but what I think it's good for it's the time and effort you put into developing your characters skills, by the end the controls won't matter, shooting is not a factor because you hit everything by that point, you have the freedom to lift trailers, and throw people across the city, and even the ability to fly/glide.
What makes crackdown so good is it's freedom and crazyness with abilities and traversing, and things like that does NOT show in a 30min demo.

and that she-wolf is hot, sry.
Sure, it might seem like a mediocre animation movie, and the jokes seemed alright, but I'm sure it will be entertaining; I mean, it has wolves for christ sake!

Thoughts so far; Red Dead: Redemption

So red dead: redemption, a world wide anticipated game released on this friday (over here).
I'll put it simple and easy, as this is not a review or an entire impressions article, and because I will do this quite often on certain games.
so here we go;

Pro's so far:
- really well done cutscenes
- remarkable voice acting makes the wide variety of funny and interesting characters beliveable, and fun to just watch.
- randomly occuring side-missions are a nice change of pace, and makes the world even more alive and believeable.
- animals, nuff said.
- punchy weapons and the 'dead eye' system makes combat fun.
- expansive world feels like just the correct size, with moderate amount stuff to do in it.
- interesting time period and setting, something different.
- free roaming in multiplayer is fun to mess around with friends, compedetive is also fun.
- new and interesting weapons such as; throwing knifes, lasso, and dynamite are fun to use, and rarely seen in the genre.

Con's so far:
- slow and clunky controls can get frustrating when preforming specific tasks, weird control set-up.
- the game prioritizes animation on behalf of controls, which makes the character sometimes hard to steer in contrived scenarios.
- cover system is slow and rarely useful behind for example rocks and such.
- combat seems clunky and a chore (helped though by the 'dead eye' system)
- your character sometimes takes absolutely too much fall damage, to the point where a fall from a small building will kill you instantly. Only a chihuahua would die from said fall.
- regenerating health = dumb, it doesn't make sense in any other game than Halo, healing items lacks purpose. You also die way too quickly
- the game punishes you for dying by leaving you in the last place you saved, you might still keep some progress, but autosaving is scarce, often long way to travel back to said mission. Also saving gets tedious with the campfire and the bed.
- too many enemies
- no interaction with animals except shooting (exclude the horses)
- melee combat is unsatisfying and atrocious

I am buying Alan wake today, so expect first impressions in this form some time later.
Also, I would aprecciate if you tell me what you think about this formula of impressions, or if it's better writing a cohesive text, which is for expample my Demons souls impressions post.

Thats right, my favorite PS3 game is coming to the continent of europe that date!
This is not a gain for me since I already imported it from america, but a gain for all gamers in Europe that owns a PS3.

Demons Souls is a japanese RPG, developed by From Software, released in february of 2009 in Japan, and October of 2009 in America, and now it will be released in Europe, June 25 2010.
Demons Souls is an RPG, developed for the niche and hardcore, loved by the millions. The game struck through, relying only on word of mouth, with almost no marketing, and no mainstream appeal, the game became a huge success in America, gaining Gamespot's Game Of The Year award, and well put on the charts.

A rewarding experience requires a lot of patience and skill however, as you will die countless times in the brutal and harsh world of Demons Souls. There are days where you die in the amount of a thousand, and a day where you are plowing through the levels, and it's immensly satisfying on those latter days.

Just a tip; If you find yourself extremely frustrated with a level, get back to it in the next, or the second to next day, after having slept on the problem, you feel refreshed and ready, and soon, you will be destroying the levels. Also watch this video, it will give you an idea for where you need to go to get a starting advantage.

So Wolves are the devil?

Wrong.

People have for a long time called the wolves; the "devil himself" and the symbol of wolves have always been "evil".
but why?

because people are stupid, forcing themselves into wolves territory, carrying guns, camping in the home of wolves, it's self-explanatory that they want peace.. by themselves.
They don't like people invading their territory, possibly hurting cubs, and stealing food.
People have been attacked, because they are appearing threatened, they are really scared of people.
And yes, they can be reckless, but they don't attack humans unless they have some sort of illness like rabies, or are extremely hungry. (because as we all know, people are weak prey without their guns)

I was watching a nature program on Animal Planet (which I do a lot), human prey, and they recall all sorts of things that has happened between wolves and humans. Most of these occurrences have happened in unknown territory, with large threatening weapons, or the poor wolf has been infected with rabies.

Hopefully most of these people are open minded, and are saying that they don't blame the wolf for what it did, but the narrators always spins it around to make the wolf look like the bad guy.

Just a little rant on wolves mainstream reputation, and to stand up for them at least a little bit.

Splinter Cell: Conviction Review

So here it is, Splinter Cell: conviction, my most anticipated game of 2010, and for a good reason.

Here is also my first review, and I've decided to sort it into categories; Story, gameplay and mechanics, level design, multiplayer, and final thoughts.

Story

Following the story from Splinter Cell: Double Agent, Sam fisher has gone rogue, his daughter, Sarah, has been killed, hit and run by a car, and Sam is looking for the killer. As he ventures out on his quest for vengeance, he discovers that this is just the tip of the iceberg.

A well realized plot, with good pacing and great presentation.

Though it may be a little forgettable, it sets up for some really exciting scenarios and gameplay variety.

Gameplay

As a fan of the series, I was of course really excited about this game, and I find the gameplay really enjoyable, but there are many problems I have with the game despite my overall praise and hype.

First of all, this is not Splinter Cell. Splinter Cell was never about taking out eight people in a room in the course of a split-second; it's cool, don't get me wrong, but it's just not Splinter Cell.

The mark and execute ruins the whole deal, I like it; but again its not Splinter cell, and I would like to explain how it's not.

You can say that the game has been streamlined, made more accessible even, but in the process, it has laid more weight on things that the Splinter Cell series could do without, shooting for example, it's okay that they've improved the shooting mechanics, but thats not what the series is about.

The series has always been about using your gadgets, sneaking past guards, and traversing the level in so many awesome ways, witch I will get to in a second.

Then there is the levels that require shooting, a level I won't spoil, but early in the game, you get to a sequence that basically turns Conviction into a bad third-person shooter, and I hate that level with passion. Also, there is another level where your objective is to protect something, and is similar to horde mode in gears of war 2(and in every shooter these days)

This game rather fits the title Bourne: Conviction, or James Bond:Conviction.

finally the negative is out of the way as far as gameplay goes.

The gameplay is really great, it uses the element of stealth, blended together with action to make an unbelievably awesome experience, this is what the Bourne game should've been, or even a new James Bond game, because it's so focused on taking people out, having cool Hollywood explosions, awesome chase scenes and a plot with a accelerating pace.

Splinter Cell was awesome badass stealth, note the "was".

Tell me, what is badass stealth; taking out eight guards in a room in a split-second without being seen? Or is badass stealth; sneaking in a room and retrieving vital documents from a drawer, two feet from a terrorist that's sitting on her computer? I'd say the seconds option, thats what splinter cell is about, real badass stealth.

I've starting to sound like a broken record here, and the main thing I'm falling back on is that this is the biggest deviation from the series yet, and I think they do it less of a favor of calling it a splinter cell game, but as stated, I really love the game despite its departure from the series, so don't get me wrong, I'm just bitching like the fanboy I am.

The more fast pacing of the stealth, and the more violent approach is not bad at all, and I hope you don't get me wrong with my statements, it definitely gives new player a ton of fun, while still keeping room for a stealthy approach.

Level design

I hate opening every category with the same attitude, but this is where the new splinter cell fails the most as far as staying true to the series, this level design is linear, it has very few options as to where you can move around, and the levels just feel uninteresting.

Sure, the older ones had some very contrived and uninteresting levels in them selves, but the way you traversed the levels given to you was sort of an semi open "world", you had an objective, and you are working your way towards that objective, and reach your final goal.

You will be in every corner of the map, through almost every room, and eventually through hidden vents, pipes, ledges, repelling points, under-the-floor crawlspaces and so on. This one has just pipes, and the occasional crawl in upper level of a room, it uses these to a great potential though, and leads to some cool platforming sequences.

Though the level design is fairly linear, you can still approach the situation from a variety of angles, climb out windows to overlook the situation, climb a pipe to get the drop on a guy, and use the upper level of the room to help you sneak around.

The levels range from warehouses, office buildings, parking garages, and several american landmarks.

Multiplayer

Or I should rather say Co-op, is a really great addition to the overall experience, as the singleplayer story you will go through linear but well designed levels, the enemies respond to the situations differently, and they have some different moves. For example; they will grab you themselves if they detect you in enough time before you attempt a melee takedown, and your partner will need to free you by either doing a melee takedown, or shoot him while you resist with pressing (A). This varies the gameplay, and sets up for some really nerve wracking situations. Only problem with the co-op comes down to very tiny issues, as mentioned earlier. Other than that, the co-op partners moves, acts and kills in the same way as the enraged Sam Fisher, which is out of place for the agents still working with Third Echelon, but also as the fact that "it isn't Splinter Cell", it's such a minor problem.

Final thoughts

A short but fun singleplayer, fast paced stealth action is a lovely deviation from the main series, the mark and execute makes handling situation a less chore, but it has some frustrating out of place sequences and some minor problems with the contextual controls.

The co-op is fun and engaging, the levels leaves room for re-playability and different ways to tackle situations. With multiple gadgets, in both singleplayer and co-op, you can tackle any situation without being detected, and to slip away from heated situations.

I'm still really exited despite the fact that the singleplayer campaign is really short, but there is a lot of replayability in the co-op mode, and satisfying gameplay that pulls you back in.

I can't wait, looking to pre-order the collectors edition before it releases at the 15th in Norway^^

I've listened to about one and a half episodes as I'm writing this, and I think it's a pretty awesome podcast. I would recommend this on a whim, but as I have not heard more than the first episode, and half of the third one I believe. I will give more impressions on this later, when I listen trough the other episodes^^

So I'm thinking of doing an review for once, I've been recently just hyping and/or shitting on games that have been released, or is going to.

Some examples; Assassins Creed 2, didn't release opinions on that(a great and well paced game with improved story elements and problematic controls), also, no impressions on; Heavy Rain, Mass effect 2, Bayonetta(sort of), Uncharted 2, and a bunch of demo's.

I might do impression and/or reviews on mentioned games, if I feel like it, and I'll try to write up some impressions on future titles.

Either way I'll work on a review for demons souls, when I get the chance, because it was such a great experience and fantastic game.

Interesting character analysis; Bayonetta

It's great to see that there is some people that appreciate the character of Bayonetta in another way than just looks for once, jeez.

Watch the video, it's really interesting, especially if you have problems with her character.

Oh, and btw; the character of Bayonetta(and the game) is developed by Platinum Games, not SEGA(they are publishing it)

Games and money

Theres a bunch of stuff coming this month, and of course the next month, and I've been thinking of renting most of it, mostly because the money is scarce.

When it comes to renting games here in Norway, it's uncertain for me if they actually provide the service, but I'll look into it, if not, I better pick my purchases wisely.

A list of games coming out in the next two months that I want to get my hands on, and eventually games released previously that I want to get my hands on that I haven't gotten to play yet:

Final Fantasy (I might try this out, as I've never played a final fantasy game, I want to maybe rent this)

God Of War III (its god of war, and thats awesome)

I recently received Demon's souls, a month after ordering it.

I've been thinking of getting it, strongly considering a purchase, and with Gamespot gave Demon's Souls their game of the year, it tipped the edge over, and convinced me to buy it.

Unfortunally the game is only out in Japan and America, so I had to find a store that imports.

And I did.

About the game, its really hard and unforgiving. The game doesn't tell you one thing about what you should do, where you should go, how to approach different enemies, what the items do. You just got to kinda figure it out. What help's a lot is the integrated online hint system, you fill in the blanks of pre-set messages to warn people about traps, enemies, shortcuts and so on. If your message is helpful, and people recommend it, it gives you a instant heal in-game, which is vital at some situations. The messages that doesn't get recommended fades away, this help's to flush out the messages that isn't helpful, or tell lies.

You die a lot, when you die; you return to the 'Nexus', and you lose your body. This means that you walk around in 'soul form'. Some of the ways you can get your physical body back is to beat a boss(you only have half your health btw.) invade another player's world(and succeed in killing the person) or use an item. Also when you die, you lose all your souls, this is your currency, you increase your stats with them, without your souls, you don't proceed with anything. you can get back to your body and reclaim your souls World Of Warcraft style, but if you die on the way to your souls, you lose them all.. forever.

I've just beaten the armor-spider boss in world 2.1(the world is divided into 5 locations with 4 levels within them, and you travel between these with the 5 arc-stones in the Nexus)

So far I've beaten the big slug thingy in world 1.1 (1st try), the Tower knight in 1.2 (3rd try, but took like 70 tries to get there) and the Armor-spider in 2.1 (2nd try).The worlds are well designed, but dangerous to venture in, and you never know whats around the corner.

Unfortunally, the internet has been fucked lately on my ps3, so I couldn't access these benefits, and it immediately made the game so much more unexpecting and punishing, I can't read messages, I can't leave messages(therefore, no heals), I can't invade other people to reclaim my body, and I can't have someone to help me.

And because of that, I might find the game a lot more unforgiving.

But I'll keep playing, because it's really awesome, and satisfying when you accomplish something.

Look out for some updated opinions as I'm getting further in the game.

I watched Avatar yesterday

That movie is amazing, the quality of the CG, the premise, the characters, the design, and the quality of the acting came together so well, and made Avatar one of the most artisticly beautiful movie I've seen in a very long time, maybe of all time. I agree that the spacemarines may seem a little generic now, but I feel that James Cameron deserves to use them since he practically invented them with the alien movies. Anyway, anyone should go see this masterpiece of a movie, either in the cinema or home.

But delaying Splinter Cell: Conviction was infuriating for me, at least it wasn't more than two months, and it will give them some time to further make the game more awesome and polished.

So excuse my reaction, but I was really looking forward to February, but at least I got Heavy Rain in the end of that month. God of war in March, and then the release of Conviction at the unannounced date in April.

oh btw: I'm probably gonna start to post the releases of the month again.

I got Bayonetta two days ago, and I've been playing alot of it, and enjoying myself immensely.

What's kinda scary though, is that as of result; I didn't get much sleep, and all day I'm sitting here almost about to fall asleep, and I see shit from the game; I see symbols, witch time effects, the icons on my laptop is sorta moving and a split-second image of Bayonetta in almost every picture that has four or more colors in it. This is probably an cross effect of me enjoying really memorable moments from the game, combined with an unhealthy lack of sleep.

You ever see that picture that's basically a dot.. and you stare at it for 30 seconds, and you see some sort of figure or resemblance. Thing is, I din't stare at the screen(other than really tense combat scenarios) I didn't even sit that close to my HDTV, either way, I've been sick too for the past week, so that may factor into sleep-disturbance and hallucinations.

And on that note, I better go to bed.. the text is flying away O__o

Like shadow complex got me into Metroidvanias, can Darksiders get me into Zeldas?

I've heard from hundreds of people that a Zelda is one of their favorite games of all time, I've heard a lot about these games, so I have the basic understanding of what they are.. I've just never got my hands on one. Well, Darksiders is coming out.. today, I guess. Maybe I'll get it, maybe I'll rent it since Bayonetta comes out the 8th here, and I don't want to waste money. Anyway, it is said to be an Zelda style experience, with cool artstyle and good combat with exploration, and satisfying puzzles.

It's back to school, and I'm afraid it's gonna be as tedious as ever, mainly because I spent most of my vacation in nighttime; sleeping at the day, awoke all night and finished Borderlands.

Ok.. let me explain, this is the opening of Bayonetta(first 15 mins actually) Basically, So Bayonetta’s an Umbra Witch – a clan who worship the darkness. She’s been at the bottom of a lake for 500 years and she’s understandably suffering from a bout of amnesia. What she does remember is that her arch enemies are Lumen Sages (read: Angels) and they worship the light, and are the unfortunate saps that are turned into a thin red paste by Bayonetta throughout the game. Other characters include Jeanne – another Umbra Witch, Rodin who provides you with the weapons via his shop in hell, Luka an annoying journalist chasing Bayonetta and Joe Pesci-a-like Enzo – who adds, erm, practically nothing but wise-guy cracks to the story. Something about her mother beeing a witch and her father beeing an angel, I don't know, it's hard to follow. All I know is that the gameplay exceeds every 3rd person brawler I've ever played, so if you like those games(like I do) you should definitely get it. It comes out 8th of January, and I can't wait!

The Bayonetta soundtrack is pretty awesome, I'm not a big fan of pop or jazz(or whatever the genre this is categorized in) but I found the soundtrack very catchy, special and awesome^^

First of all, the game is said to be a prequel to the first game, and has some other outages from cliff bleszinski at the VGA awards, so I've heard:

-The game is said to have a female lead character?

-A prequel, as pointed out.

-Said to be released in 2010?

Co-op mode looks pretty cool, I like the way you share mark-and-executes and the way you can even mark them through walls using you sonar goggles. I think they said that you can customize your loadout as far as equipment, other goggles, weapons, and stuff like that.

The game comes out 2010 at 23 of February, and I can't wait!

Splinter Cell: Conviction is my most anticipated game of 2010 at this point.
I'm still really exited about Bayonetta, Mass Effect 2, Darksiders, Heavy Rain, Bioshock, God of War III and some other titles, but my most personal anticipated has to be Splinter Cell: Conviction, because Splinter Cell has always been one of my favorite franchises, and because I think they are doing the right things to really revive this franchise, to not only a superb game, but also to appeal to a bigger audience, if that makes sense.

Anyway, it's been a great year for gaming, and I do not doubt that the next year will be fantastic aswell

The E3 of 2010 is soon to come, in fact, it's in june next year.

A Gameinformer article suggest that we will see a reveal or a teaser for the newest addition in the grand theft auto franchise at the next Electronic Entertainment Expo in 2010 and that the game will probably see the light of day in the year of 2011.

Rockstar games is making a western style gta, set to release in 27 of april next year.

It's called, Red Dead Redemtion. It is a prequel to rockstar's previous western title, Red Dead Revolver, I believe they said, and it looks fucking awesome.

As the impressions from people that has seen and played the game at videogame shows like PAX09 and E3, has been more than positive. Theres no doubt that rockstar makes some really great big games, I just hope that they don't make the game lack variable content as the new GTA did, as opposed to the older games in the series, but it seems like Rockstar is getting it, and keeps multiplying the amount of revolutionary stuff for every game they make.

Another thing I hate modern warfare 2 for, other than the gameplay, is that the hype alone pushed back a lot of great games.

OK, maybe I'm being a little harsh, but I got to say fuck you to the hype of modern warfare. It fucking pushed back BAYONETTA and was probably some reason for the push back of Splinter Cell! A lot of games got pushed back to 2010, and I'm pretty sure MW2 has some of the blame.

So fuck you modern warfare 2, for not letting me enjoy cool games..in time.

I played modern warfare 2, the most overhyped game of all time, and now the most overrated game, next to Halo. I haven't played through it yet, and the multiplayer is the same as the 4th in the series with some new twists and features. And thats the way this game is overhyped, the multiplayer is solid, it really is, but the same multiplayer has been contained through all the games. sure, they made improvements, but the same basics has consisted.

The core mechanics are still there, get cool weapons wanting to try them out, peek around the corner, have a thousand dudes shooting at just you, blocking your sight with "jelly" and die because you can't see shit. Thats the worst part of the game for me. It's like they expect this super human of you; and even when I play on the easiest setting (which I had to set in the urban area that was flooded with terrorists that shot at my ass) I still feel like the weakest soldier in the world. It would have made the game so much more enjoyable if I could remove "jellyvision" and tone down the difficulty, I mean, I wanna get through it, I wanna experience the crazy storyline and crazier set-pieces without crawling my way through the game.

The singleplayer is nothing to write home about, the story is simple, pointless, nonsense and balls out crazy. And the controversy with the infamous airport level could have a lot more impact then it had, there was just no diversity in the civilians, if they wanted it to be realistic and somewhat touching there needs to be a diversity of people. An airport should be populated with things like tourists, old people, children, different races, teens and a lot more. I know it sounds cruel to be complaining about such thing, but the idea of it is pretty cruel as well.

For the ones that care about the multiplayer, by all means. (you have experienced it before btw.)

But if your in it for the singleplayer, it's really short and somewhat cool, but I would say that it's a rent.

I did not buy it myself, my brother did (cuz he's a chotch) giving Activision their money, and getting nothing more than Call of duty 4, again.

I finally got to try out Dragon Age: Origins.

I tried it out on the PC, and I was surprised how it left a really positive impression on me.

Even a guy like me who never played world of warcraft, never played Baldurs Gate(which this is supposed to be a spiritual successor to) and just got into the RPG genre. Reviews and comments on the PC version says that it is a lot more "hardcore" than the console versions. Despite the comments, I found myself sinking into the combat system and the skills pretty easily (note that I'm playing on easy).

I didn't get that far into it, I downloaded it today (put me in prison and throw the keys, I just wanted to try it out) Yes, I downloaded it because I didn't want to pay 60$ (600 kr) for a game I wasn't sure at all if I even would remotely like, but now I really wanna get it.

And no, the game is violent but the music presented is not fitting and completely absent from the game. Don't get me wrong I dig Marilyn Manson and the trailer, but I think it should rather appeal to the audience that plays these types of games, and I think the music can be a bit off-putting for a big part of that audience.

Ok, correction.. My Xbox 360 sux.

It failed on me last weekend, the screen froze 5min after I started it, every time! We called xbox support, and they pointed out the official site where they had a troubleshoot that described the things that I tried to do, word by word.

Not only does the support suck, but the quality of the product shouldn't have to be so shitty. Yes, the controller is firm and great, Yes, the online capabilities is really great, but when the xbox 360 has a fail rate of about a 100%, the question isn't "IF?", it's "WHEN?".

I'm not a PS3 fanboy, I'm not a fanboy of any of the systems, but when it comes to durability and games in general, I would give it to the PS3.

Modern Warfare 2: fight against grenade spam trailer.

Acknowledge how "fight against grenade spam" spells "F.A.G.S". XD people are going crazy

about this trailer, I can see why; in a way. Calling people for pussies because of a certain action

that often lead to cheap kills can seem a little ballsy coming from Infinity ward (probably activision).

I thought it was funny, even though I haven't been experiencing it myself. (did I say I do not play

multiplayer games without friends?) Even if I had been cheated by this behavior; I don't see why

they have to make a full on trailer dedicated to these unfair players playstyle.

I've been kinda down on Modern Warfare2 because of the mainstream hype surrounding it.

Now I'm kinda getting excited about it, I've heard some news stories about the big controversy

with a airport scene in the game, it supposedly contained you; executing unarmed civilians as a

terrorist, it may be cruel, but it can intensify what you feel for the terrorist, maybe give you an idea

what they're fighting for, why they do what they do. There's potential for a powerful storyline and to

make a real impact that is rarely done in games, I hope this is what they aim, and not just have it

there just to piss media off.

I'm not gonna buy it day 1 though (because activision are douches.)

I've been playing Borderlands a lot, and I am probably going to continue playing, because the game is super fun.

It's sorta like a mix between a Diablo game and a shooter. Where the game focuses on things like; loot, rare items, levels and guns, lots and lots of guns! The developers claims that there's over 87 Bazillion randomly generated guns, and seeing the variety so far, it seems pretty likely. only problem is that all the snipers look mostly the same, most of the smg's runs in the same shape, shotguns look pretty similar and so on. That doesn't hurt the game a single bit, you really don't even notice.

There's some cool guns I've heard about too, There was some dude that found a shotgun that shoots flaming smiley's or a rocket launcher that rapidly fires 6 rockets. I have not found someone as crazy as that, but I've had some really awesome ones.

I'm currently playing as the Hunter (currently level 23), which is a sniper class that has gunslinging abilities and a pet. The pet is called the "bloodwing", it's a bird that he sends out who rips enemies to shreds. You can equip different skills to the bloodwing such as corrosion damage(acid), electric damage etc.

The skill tree consist of three branches; the sniper, rogue(bloodwing focused) and gunslinger. I have put most of my points into gunslinger and melee damage and I'm going to spec out the sniper tree aswell.

As I said; I have been playing a lot, because it's fun and really addictive.

I haven't had the chance to try out the co-op yet, cuz the chotches on my friends list didn't buy it(yet)

So the experience I've had so far is from the singleplayer. They say the co-op is alot more fun, so

I'm looking forward to it.

Games ain't art?

Games are very much an artistic medium. If you use the freedom provided the right way, games can look as good as art if not better. There is the games that has taken the art literally, look at Okami, Muramasa and other Japanese titles, It doesn't need to look like a watercolored canvas to be a compelling piece within art.

Even though it's beautiful, and has a unique art style, it also takes art very literal. (by all means, it's not a bad thing at all) My argument is that games doesn't need to look like that to be art.

Uncharted takes it world design from different locations in the world, often very exotic and distant places, that contain a lot of ancient culture that populates the environment around the interesting characters in it, and it is presented in a such beautiful way that will stun people.

Probably the most artistic game I've played last year is Mirrors Edge, it lends itself to a very artistic architecture with very defined, bright and strong colors. The use of red, blue, yellow and green in this game is stunning, it gives the industrial look a different feel, and you get a more futuristic and simplistic design. the constant use of white gives the environment a very clean look, and is helping the futuristic feel for the city.

Another game coming out that is very artistic is Bayonetta

A thing that Japanese developers are often good at is making a game very decorated, with a lot of very weird and unnecessary items and often weird clothing design.

Take Final Fantasy for example, the clothing design is very decorative and also very costume-like. I don't get the girly look of the these characters, I'm not the person who shits on others art, but why? Anyway, it's very unnecessary, but whatever.

Games is art, and the critics should just GTFO about they're false statements until they can back them up with some research.

Honestly, the game was bad, it controlled like shit, it looked bad, the animations was really bad, the level design was really bad and the "grindhouse" feel that they where going for didn't appeal to me at all. It had limited platforming with frustrating gunplay, and some really throwaway mechanics.

The game got really boring at times, often after a major gunfight the music would disappear and the game would have you run through poorly designed platform sequences.

They also throw you into rooms filled with the same suitwearing bad-guys you've encountered trough the whole game and make you fight your way through them, while trying to slash those icons to block the doors that contain the infinite spawning enemies. While doing this, they might throw you a "boss", and the bosses are basically dudes with mini-guns that suck up a bunch of bullets, before stumbling to the side, waiting for the final blow, preformed in a quicktime event.

Why is it so punishing to try not to use slo-mo? the controls are so bad in this game that you're not even able to kill a guy effectively without slo-mo.

Cartoons ain't what they used to be

I know it sounds a little old-fashioned and weird, but thats how it is.

Now cartoons on TV is more about pure action or poorly drawn unimaginative characters with squeaky voices with really awkward juvenile humor and dialogue.

The humor usually consists of constant poorly written jokes with a stupid voice and the sort of "hey-look-at-me-I'm-funny" type of humor.

I can see why kids think this is entertaining in a sort of way, and I really don't have any problem with it that way. It's just that the quality that is delivered is not very good, if not badly drawn, it's either badly acted or really bad, overused and generic jokes.

I think they're kinda running out of ideas and good artist. The old ones, like Animaniacs, Loony Tunes(it's still something left) and stuff like that, really clever humor, really greatly drawn characters and some of the most creative dialogue which really tries to learn something to the kids, not mindless fart jokes, and pointless scenarios.

Character design and quality, the new cartoons have really simplistic characters(probably to shorten the development time, because they're lazy) as opposed to the characters in for example Looney tunes or Disney.

The character is very detailed, and well developed. (and kinda hot, but thats not the point)

The simplistic design make for a lot more and longer episodes, but take some of the artistic quality from the projects. I even saw some like minute-episodes of a guest series or whatever, I didn't find a picture (because I don't know the name) but It was literally this:

How can this be accepted if the humor isn't good either? Cartoons should have some sort of redeeming quality, if it's the effects, humor, looks, style, moral, story, presentation, dialogue, emotion or whatever.

Sorry about my unnecessary rant about how I want the old cartoons back, but I had to get it out. I just hope they put a little more emphasis on teaching kids something, and/or deliver them clever, well though out jokes and characters. Eyecandy is always good, but mixing top-tier artistic quality with the writing of a person like Spielberg(who wrote Animaniacs) or alike, is getting things done right.

Another game I'm exited about, it is Bayonetta. It's made by the same guy who did Devil may Cry, Okami, resident evil 2 and more respecable titles.

Bayonetta is an action brawler featuring the sexy hair witch, named Bayonetta. Putting the sexyness aside, from what I've heard from people who played it, it has the best controls and flow of battle of any action brawler. You're running on walls, jumping on debrie a boss trows through the air, fighting on a jet plane, or on the remains of a church that is stuck on a two headed dragon flying through the air, it's so crazy insane, and your'e controlling it.

She uses her hair to attack, summon "torture attacks" and a varity of huge hair demons to finish off the enemy. theres also some cool moves that may sound a little suggestive, like pole dancing in a crowd of enemies will produce an area-attack move, or the so called "torture attacks"(guess yourself), and the finish moves, which are often summoning huge creatures, are called "climax attack"(yea, I know) and while preforming the climax attacks, she has to use most of the hair she has(aka. her outfit). Because while beeing this "hair witch" the hair is what is her clothing and such. so because the climax moves are so demanding of her hair..(well, you get the idea)

The enemies looks butt ugly though, even though they're set up to be angels or something, trying to stop you or whatever, the story behind that is pretty unclear.

Either way, I'm buying this game, and I think you should give it a shot too, if you want a tight action experience with a lot of crazyness and awesomeness for the 360 and ps3, and If you're looking for a good use for your holiday money, and if what I hear is true(which is pretty likely) this is what you wanna use your money for in the month of January.

The price drop and (in my opinion) the great new design, is gonna make Sony sell a ton of new consoles. I got both consoles, and I love 'em both, I just feel that the PS3 has been getting the disadvantage, because of the 360 beeing less then half the price, I hope this would even it out, saleswise.

Humanoid creatures with animal features..

"Furry", "Anthro", "Humanoid Animals", "Cartoon Characters" whatever you call them, theres

an instant "hate-wave" of comments wherever theres some sort of referrence to the subject, either if it's a simple drawing, a game, a comic or whatever. And I'm having some problems in understanding the extreme dislike of the creatures. Most of the people that like this are well respected artists in the community, or just pure fans of the beautiful art that is created by those artists. Or you can search for the wrong stuff and find really graphic pictures or people in fursuits.

Fursuiters live in the fantasy of this actually beeing real, they dress up and create another part of the community. They often create their fursuits from their "fursonas", a graphical representation of themselves beeing an anthro, theyre often made with the same attributes as the creator(hair, fitting animal, piercings, eye colour, clothes, etc.)

Even though I think they are a little weird myself, I at least have the respect not to bitch about

them on every related forum I come across.

When you think about it, there may be a lot of anthros in the merit of your childhood, animated cartoons on TV, in comics and diverse mascotts for sport teams or websites. Some examples:

Donald Duck, feathered humanoids is in fact also reffered to as anthros, the way you mix the human and animal isn't limited to the animals that actually feature fur. As you see, theres many human features constucted in this character.

And theres so much more anthro in the main-stream entertainment without you even realizing it(Bugs Bunny, starfox, Sylvester, animaniacs, goofy, ratchet & clank, tiny toons, etc.) so why is so much attention drawn to a random picture on some distant blog, or on a random forum.

One thing thats got me interested in this game is the same thing that got me interested in the

Ratchet & Clank series, this is of course the anthros starring in it. The beginning of the trailer

got me a little turned off, the way the music started, with the game looking like a super soft and

sweet disney movie(the old ones for sure), but then the trailer suddenly shifts into a quite different pace.

You've probably seen the game Murumasa, or probably watched/played some Viewtiful Joe?

Well.. It's this super over-the-top 2d brawler(seriously, watch the trailer) So even if youre a "furry" hater for

some strange reason, look into it for the over-the-top gameplay.

I don't usually get exited about japanese games exept for like Tekken and Metal Gear Solid, but this actually

looks cool, It's not the anime style that you often get in these type of games, and it is the anime style that

often turns me off from some probably very good games.

News for Splinter cell.. and it's not good

Unfortunally the one game I was most looking forward to this year.. is not coming out this year, recent news confirmed that the new Splinter Cell has been pushed back to 2010. I guess you can look at this the positive way, in the meantime the developers probably would take their time and make the game even more awesome and polished, and make it worth our wait. Either way I'm buying this game.

I pre-ordered Infamous may-09, cool, right?

Well, I read on a forum (playstation.com forums more specific) about Infamous having exclusive content for the pre-ordering bunch. (like an early access demo and some cool melee weapons). Unfortunally I went into the store meeting some workers that had no idea about what I was talking about. They called their boss, nothing there. Guess I have to wait for the demo like everyone else.. meh.
